NatWest is one of the first banks to integrate its banking app for Apple Vision Pro users to harness the potential of augmented reality.
The move intends to blend digital content with the physical world by unlocking spatial experiences by interacting with the NatWest banking, being able to make app functions such as sending payments, applying for loans and more.
NatWest aims to enhance the user experience, optimising Vision Pro for eye tracking in Apple’s VisionOS and making security changes to keep customers secure when banking on the new device.
The UK bank becomes one of the first globally to have its app feature on VisionOS, which features a three-dimensional user interface and input system controlled by a user’s eyes, hands and voice.
Intuitive gestures will also allow users to interact with apps by looking at them, tapping their fingers to select, flicking their wrist to scroll, or using a virtual keyboard or dictation to type.
Chief Digital Information Officer at NatWest, Wendy Redshaw, commented: “It’s great to be a first-mover with such exciting new technology.
“It will be interesting to take learnings, understand how customers use the app in this new technology to deal with their finances, and to understand how we can create bespoke propositions to serve them even better. It’s just one insight into how the future of banking could look in the future – watch this space.”
The Apple Vision Pro launched in the UK, along with Australia, France, Canada, Singapore, on 12 July as the tech giant is one of the leading companies in the augmented reality field.
Being able to perform banking activities on the device could prove groundbreaking if early adoption of Vision Pro progresses in the UK as it seeks to provide a truly immersive experience by enabling multifaceted applications all at once.
NatWest will use insights from usage of the app on the new device to improve its product and service design for digital features. Users can visualise their financial world on a large canvas with limitless space – making use of NatWest’s existing features such as viewing credit score, managing spending and exploring insights.
